Films produced since the 1970s avoid surgery in favor of manipulating brain contents via microelectronic procedures for inserting, copying, transferring, selling, buying, controlling, implanting, or deleting “embrained” information.
Memory transfers are functional equivalents of brain transplantations: Saying that A has B’s memories is the same as saying that A has B’s brain, and giving A’s memories to B generally implies relocating some kind of brain substance. The cerebral self is mostly memorial, and the memorial self is necessarily cerebral.
