In 1990, the great organ at the Notre Dame Cathedral underwent a complete restoration. According to the official Notre Dame website, it was possible to retrieve the symphonic sonorities of the organ modified by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, who worked on the instrument during the 1860s restoration of the building by Viollet-le-Duc, while also preserving the older layers, from the 17th and 18th centuries, and including the undeniable contributions of the contemporary world.
