One of the most controversial issues concerns applied behavior analysis, the above-mentioned therapy that employs learning theory to improve “socially significant behaviors.”For many parents, ABA is the only way of helping their autistic children make some progress toward establishing visual contact and performing limited cognitive tasks. In contrast, for autism militants, ABA represses autistics’ natural modes of expression (Dawson 2004).
