Light and Dark: Correcting the Balance, by Judy Singer

Judy Singer (2007) herself warned that the movement is walking on the “dark side” of identity politics, through “its eternal victimhood, its infantilism, its demand for unconditional love and acceptance without concomitant adult self-reflection, self-criticism, a measure of stoicism, and a willingness to see light and dark in oneself as well as in ‘the Other.’”
Singer’s criticism implies that self-advocates’ use of brain-related terms has contributed to the concealment of individual and institutional dimensions that deserve to be openly discussed.
